Laser Treatment and Skincare News
People are often misled to believe that summer is the only season that really damages the skin. This may be the case, if the proper summer attire and sunscreen are not worn, but what about winter? Weather conditions play an important part in the health of your skin and should not be ignored. While summer is the season that the most sunscreen is purchased, this is not the only season sunscreen’s use should be put into practice. Even though we may not be at the beach or lounging by the pool, the sun is still damaging our skin. Do you feel the sun beating in as you drive to work? How about walking the dog? A sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or greater should be used on a daily basis no matter what time of year. Also, try to always purchase a noncomodogenic sunscreen to prevent breakouts from any added oils or fragrances.
Listed below are some other winter skin care tips:
-
Always keep your body hydrated by drinking lots of water, at least 64 ounces daily.
-
Limit the amount of caffeine and alcohol you intake: these act as diuretics, which release fluid from the body.
-
Use a moisturizer on your face and your entire body every day.
-
Exfoliate with a “gentle” exfoliant once a week to get rid of flaky skin.
-
Protect your lips with a good lip balm; avoid licking your lips as much as possible.
-
Don’t forget your elbows and knees. Scrub with a natural loofah on a regular basis, followed by a thick, rich moisturizing cream.
-
Take care of your hands. Always use a good hand cream after washing and wear gloves outdoors to protect your hands from harsh weather.
-
Purchase a humidifier. This will prevent the air in your home from being so dry, which will also prevent your skin from becoming dry.
-
Sunscreen! Sunscreen! Sunscreen!
